TCA Architects won top honors at this year’s Gold Nugget Awards for One Paseo, a recently completed mixed-use project located in the Del Mar Heights neighborhood of San Diego. The project won in the category of Best Mixed-Use Project
Designed for Kilroy Realty, the project combines 608 units of residential, 280k sf of office and 96k sf of retail. The residents are located four and five stories above ground-floor amenities, creating a true live, work, and play environment that stood out for the judging panel that took note of the collaborative efforts of the One Paseo team.
The residential component (designed by TCA Architects) provides a 24/7 presence by locating housing in direct proximity to shopping and working environments. Horizontal proximity integrates these essential uses supporting a sustainable, pedestrian friendly and livable environment. “Ultimately, the intent is to energize the community with a variety of demographics by providing a choice in housing solutions that in turn creates a vibrant social fabric,” said Chahbazian.
Now in its 58th year, the Gold Nugget Awards is the largest and most prestigious competition of its kind in the nation. It honors design and planning achievements in community and home design, green-built housing, site planning, commercial, retail, mixed-use development and specialty housing categories. Winners this year were chosen from over 600 entries from around the world. The Gold Nugget Awards, recognize those who improve our communities through exceptional concepts in design, planning and development. Chosen from the elite pool of Merit Award winners, Grand Awards were announced on June 16th in a virtual online event.
