Alphatec Spine Inc (ATEC) leased the entire 121.5k sf building located at 1950 Camino Vida Roble in the heart of the Carlsbad technology corridor. The two-story structure will house state-of-the-art research and development, lab and distribution facilities for ATEC, a provider of innovative spine surgery solutions.
ATEC is redesigning and renovating the entire space to comprise a seven-station cadaveric lab; product display showcase; biomechanical testing facility; technology advancement group; and quality control, operations and administrative functions. The project will also include indoor and outdoor collaborative employee meeting zones. ATEC is expected to take occupancy of its new headquarters in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Patrick Miles, chairman and CEO of ATEC, said, “We are thrilled to create an unbelievable environment that will allow our employees, surgeons and sales partners to continue our mission of revolutionizing the approach to spine surgery. This will ensure that ATEC continues to be the ‘Center for Innovation’ in spine, releasing the most advanced products to support surgical outcomes and cementing ATEC’s status as the industry’s standard bearer.”
Robert McGriff, Mike Labelle and Bridget Garwitz of Savills advised ATEC in the 10-year transaction. The property owner, RAF Pacifica, was repped in the transaction by Aric Starck of Cushman & Wakefield.SCA Architecture, BYCOR and Next Level Project Management provided design, construction, and project and move management expertise.
In addition to location and size, the significant outdoor amenities planned for the building attracted ATEC to the property. These include an amphitheater, sport courts, patios and gathering spaces, strategically designed to encourage interaction, productivity and the exchange of ideas.
