Peri & Sons Farms Spends $27.5 Mil on 2,400-Acre Farmland Portfolio in CA’s Imperial County

9/27/23

Peri & Sons Farms, a family farming operation based in Nevada, has acquired a 2,411-acre portfolio of agricultural farmland located in the sought after Holtville submarket of Imperial County, CA, in a $27.5 mil transaction. Known as Starr Ranch, the portfolio is located in the city of Holtville and consists of high-quality vegetable ground, including 527 organic acres.

Peri & Sons Farms is expanding its footprint in the region and has long-term plans to farm the property. The company currently farms 15,000 acres in Nevada and California, growing fresh-market onions, leafy greens, and carrots, both conventionally and organically.

Starr Ranch consists of fertile Class II and III soils and features 12,280.8 AF (5.71 per IID farmable acre) of irrigation water allocated under Imperial Irrigation District’s 2023 Equitable Distribution Plan (EDP). Historically the farm has produced a mix of winter vegetables including conventional and organic spinach, spring mix, carrots, mixed leaf lettuces, and onions as well as forage crops such as alfalfa and sudangrass.

“The Starr Ranch presented a unique opportunity for Peri & Sons to expand its footprint in Imperial, continue its mission to grow fresh produce year-round exclusively in the United States, both sustainably and responsibly, and keep the Starr Ranch in Ag, which we felt was important to all interested parties,” said David J. Peri, President and Chief Executive Officer of Peri & Sons Farms.

Cushman & Wakefield’s Matt Davis, ALC, and Melanie Haynes of the firm’s Land Advisory Group in San Diego represented the seller in the transaction.
