Nadel Architecture + Planning Introduces Direct-to-Retailer Design studio

Nadel Architecture + Planning has launched a new Direct-to-Retailer design studio. This new division will be led by 20-year industry veteran Ryan Weller, who has joined the firm as its Director of Retail to manage the firm’s new studio of retailer services and design studio.

“The new Direct-to-Retailer offering strategically positions us for long-term growth and provides us with an opportunity to continue to expand our retail design services,” says Greg Lyon, Chairman of the Board for Nadel Architecture + Planning. “This is the perfect time for us to expand our retail capabilities, particularly given the current environment in which we believe we will begin to see significant innovation within the retail industry.”

According to Lyon, the retail renaissance that occurred post 2008, giving way to new retail concepts such as Lululemon, Apple and quick-serve restaurants are likely to occur once again in the current retail environment.

“The retail industry continues to reinvent itself as consumer preferences evolve,” explains Lyon. “Today’s environment is shining a light on what is working and what is not working, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s a time of opportunity. We believe that we will see shopping destinations begin to push the envelope, taking advantage of new vacancies to invigorate spaces. We will also see retailers seeking innovative design concepts for their retail stores that better align with today’s consumers’ experiential needs and wants.”

Nadel’s new Direct-to-Retailer studio will be strategically positioned to cater to the design trends of these evolving retail tenants, while the firm’s existing Retail studio serves the evolving needs of destinations.

“We truly understand the demand for designing authentic destinations that deliver lifestyle experiences to consumers and how to strategically create those experiences through creative design,” explains Lyon. “In fact, the current social distancing environment has ultimately magnified the need in our communities for core destinations that create a sense of place and engagement. This is what we are all currently starving for and will see rebound significantly in retail designs as we begin to reemerge over the next few months.”

In his new role, Ryan Weller will focus on developing the Direct-to-Retailer design studio for Nadel, while executing the planning and design objectives for high-end retail projects throughout the nation. Weller joins Nadel with nearly two decades of experience in the design and planning of retail properties throughout the U.S. He has worked on iconic projects for major retail clients including Montblanc, Rapha and Guess Inc. Additionally, Weller is responsible for the development of more than 200 Lululemon stores across the nation.

Prior to Nadel, Weller served as director of retail for Menemsha Architecture where he crafted a team catered to serving high-end retail and commercial clients. Earlier, he worked for various architectural firms designing and producing retail spaces as well as quick-serve restaurants, healthcare facilities and financial institutions.
