Klorman Construction recently installed cast in place pile foundation for the new Passenger Boarding Bridges system in Terminal 2 at LAX, part of a major overhaul and renovation program of Terminal 2 designed to significantly improve the level of service and appearance of the 30-year-old building.
Woodland Hills-based Klorman’s work also included Concrete for the Systems Renovations at Terminal 2 for the new equipment upgrades as well as pads, piers, in-fills, curbs, repairs, patching, and leveling to the existing terminal.
Significantly, all of the work being undertaken by Klorman and other contractors is taking place on an active airport at terminal gates with heavy equipment being mobilized through busy airport traffic and while large aircraft maintained their schedules. The construction schedule required working on and completing only one bridge at a time prior to starting the next, allowing the terminal to be operational during construction. This project demanded the greatest safety requirements and quality control efforts available.
“This was a very complicated undertaking, not only with regards to the actual work itself given the age of the existing structure, but also in terms of having to navigate through the ongoing operations of one of the busiest airports in the world,” said Bill Klorman, president of Klorman Construction. “Nonetheless, thanks to our 36 years in business, we have been always been able to address complex situations while providing the level of service our clients have come to expect from Klorman Construction.”
Turner Construction Co is the general contractor on the project, and Gin Wong Associates is providing architectural services.
