Recent leasing activity has brought the commercial space at Cityline, a new transit-oriented, mixed-use destination in downtown Sunnyvale, to over 80% occupied. And, the residential side is also seeing significant activity with The Martin, a 12-story luxury apartment tower, reaching 75% leased since welcoming renters in June 2024.
The project is a development of STC Venture LLC, a joint venture between Sares Regis Group of Northern California (SRGNC) and Hunter Partners, with SRGNC the primary residential developer, and Hunter Partners the primary commercial developer.
The most recent leases on the retail side include three restaurants -- Senro Sushi, Sana’s House Café and Shake Shack – as well as a laser hair removal service. Each signed 10-year leases and plan to open in Q4 2025. The Econic Company represented ownership in the deals.
The three new eateries join the six Cityline restaurants and cafes already open to the active, pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use district which celebrated its official grand opening last fall. When complete, Cityline will include 1,100 new apartments, 1 msf of office space, a large public plaza called Redwood Square, and 500k sf of new retail and entertainment options.
At the Martin, 354 of the 479 apartment units have been rented in just over six months. The available homes include studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units that start at $3,410 a month.
Groundbreaking for Cityline’s Phase I kicked off in late 2016. Construction included 273 apartments and nearly 100k sf of retail. That was followed by a 110k sf building anchored by Whole Foods Market and AMC Theaters, two retail uses that were priorities for the city. In early 2021, the third phase commenced as the Downtown Specific Plan (DSP) was approved, allowing 792 residential new units and 650k sf of office space located above 182k sf of ground floor retail on four parcels along Murphy and McKinley Avenues. Topping out in May 2023, the two seven-story office buildings and a 12-story luxury apartment tower, The Martin, are now complete and attracting new retailers, businesses, and residents.
