City of Oakland Buys 63-Unit Former College Dormitory Property for $13 Mil

Clifton Hall, a 63-unit former college dormitory in Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood, sold for $13 mil, or $206k per unit. The property, located at 5276 Broadway, was purchased by the City of Oakland for use as interim and permanent affordable housing for vulnerable Oakland families and seniors.

The building totals approximately 45k sf across five floors. The ground level will serve as the offices for Family Front Door. The second floor will be used as a 20-household family shelter. The top two floors will provide 42 units of permanent housing for seniors experiencing homelessness. Residents began moving in at the end of December 2020.

CBRE’s Keith Manson, Zachary Greenwood and Mac Watson represented the seller, California College of the Arts. The City of Oakland financed the building by utilizing State of California Homekey Grant Funds.
