BH Properties has purchased the 60-acre campus of Holy Names University in Oakland for $65 mil. The recently vacated campus consists of 15 buildings that include a performing arts center, chapel, library, gym, classrooms and housing for 450 students. The transaction eliminates the need for an auction of the property that had been scheduled for later in the month.
Founded by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in 1868, Holy Names University had built and occupied the site since 1957 and recently added the 450-seat Valley Center for the Performing Arts. Due to declining enrollment, HNU announced in December 2022 that it would cease operations following the 2023 school year, which ended in May.
The hillside campus boasts bay views, extensive landscaped grounds, classrooms, labs, conference, theater, dining hall, gym, library, outdoor recreation, and other facilities that can be fully equipped for all types of educational uses.
“There are many organizations in dire need of educational space and we believe there will be significant interest in leasing this site,” added Andy Van Tuyle, BH Properties Senior Managing Director, Investments. “The history, location, and amenities provide a unique opportunity to provide facilities for the many educational institutions seeking expansion alternatives.”
Mike Taquino, Kyle Kovac, Joe Moriarty, and Giancarlo Sangiacomo of CBRE brokered the transaction. David Klein and Jeff Moeller of Lee & Associates are marketing the property on behalf of BH Properties.
