Oakland Hotel Property to be Converted into Housing for People Exiting Homelessness

5/15/26

The Maya Hotel, a 7.4k sf hotel property in Oakland, was acquired by Oakland 46th Street LP, a partnership between Danco Communities, lead developer and sponsor, and Operation Dignity, the non-profit general partner. The property is located at 4715 Telegraph Ave, north of I-580 and just east of Hwy 24.

The project was awarded $7.055 mil as part of the Homekey+ program, $5.48 mil in capital funds and $3.2 mil in operating funds from the City of Oakland's (R2H2) program, as well as $1.77 milk from the Department of Behavioral Health for an operating subsidy. The Homekey+ Program aims to quickly increase housing options for residents experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.

The Maya Hotel will be converted into The Maya Commons, a 23-studio apartment complex, for people exiting homelessness and seeking stable housing. Construction of the property is planned to be completed by the end of 2026.

This transaction marks the 10th successful Homekey project in Alameda County. Colliers Vice President Gregory Hunter facilitated the transaction on behalf of Danco Communities and Operation Dignity. Gregory also represented Danco Communities and Operation Dignity in the purchase of The Inn at Temescal, located at 3720 Telegraph Ave, also in Oakland. Colliers Senior Vice President Tony Park and Vice President Tom Rafton represented the seller. The motel was repurposed into 21 units of housing for veterans experiencing homelessness.

Consistent with its previous projects, Danco Communities and Operation Dignity, through the Limited Partnership, will develop, own and operate the project. Danco Communities is the lead developer, Danco Builders Northwest is the general contractor and Danco Property Management is the management agent of The Maya Commons. Operation Dignity will serve as the lead service provider, coordinating a seamless network of support and directly connecting residents to on-site case management and critical community resources, including comprehensive physical and mental/behavioral/medical health care, educational pathways, harm-reduction services, and workforce development to promote stability and long-term self-sufficiency.
