The event, called The Zanja Madre Experience – referencing the original aqueduct that brought water to the Pueblo de Los Angeles – was wholly sponsored by Barings at their DTLA flagship building. As a highlight of the event, General Manager, Neal Perkey, Transwestern, gave a guided walking tour that tied the commercial real estate industry with this aspect of the history of Los Angeles as a gathering spot for diverse cultures.
“We’re committed to empowering and supporting communities and organizations like the AAREPLA,” said Sandy Throop, Managing Director, Barings. “Our goal is to advance the economic and social mobility for communities across the country and around the world. The AAREPLA’s determination to bring greater diversity into the commercial real estate sector is much needed and we’re proud to support their efforts.”
“It is always gratifying when our industry, and our community comes together to make new connections and renew old ones – and to support one another in a meaningful way,” said Kimberly Brown, Founding Board member of AAREPLA and a Managing Director at Cushman & Wakefield. “Networking, connecting and mentoring is a cornerstone of building and supporting a diverse talent and B2B pipeline in commercial real estate – and this event embodies the steps we are taking to continue moving in the right direction.
Established in 1995 in Washington DC, the African American Real Estate Professionals (AAREP) is a national network of chapters developed to support the advancement of African Americans seeking to obtain career establishment and growth within the commercial real estate industry through professional development and networking.
