The Orion, a new, 166-unit affordable senior housing community in the city of Orange, has officially opened. The $63.6 mil project, located at 1800 E. La Veta Ave, is a development of Riverside Charitable Corporation and USA Properties.
Designed by AO, the development offers one- and two-bedroom units for adults 55+, helping address the growing need for affordable senior housing in Orange County. The community is operated under Section 42 of the Internal Revenue Code, designed to support housing for moderate- and middle-income households, while also accepting Section 8 participants.
The infill development adds three new residential buildings to an established senior community, replacing a former rehabilitation facility while preserving two existing residential buildings for seniors and persons with disabilities on the uniquely shaped H site.
Inspired by the propertys existing mid-century modern character, AO designed The Orion to create a connected, holistic living environment with accessible apartments, shared green spaces, outdoor courtyards, a dog park and resident amenities including a community room, computer workstations, fitness center and senior services center.
