Here’s news of a unique, architectural property in San Francisco that’s been put on the market. Known as The Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM), the 63k sf building, located at 736 Mission St within downtown San Francisco’s Yerba Buena cultural district, is recognized as San Francisco City Landmark No. 87.

In 2008, world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind led an adaptive reuse for The CJM, integrating the historic structure with contemporary elements. The building has served as a purpose-built museum with soaring ceilings and interiors that include galleries and event spaces, a large auditorium, classrooms and meeting rooms, administrative offices, retail space and a café.
The property is situated at the cultural heart of San Francisco, in one of the City’s most dynamic neighborhoods, bookended by the Four Seasons Hotel and the Four Seasons Residence Tower, directly across from Yerba Buena Gardens and the Moscone Center and steps from Market Street, hotels, dining, shopping and public transportation and parking.
The sale is intended to support The CJM’s plan to ensure a sustainable and impactful future for the Yerba Buena neighborhood cultural district. As part of the sale, The CJM plans to exit the building at closing.
Newmark Executive Managing Director Mark Geisreiter, Senior Managing Director Seth McKinnon and Director Josh Peterson are the listing agents for the property. According to Geisreiter, their focus is to identify the right steward whose program complements the Yerba Buena neighborhood cultural district and will serve San Francisco for decades to come. An asking price was not given out.
