Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation has broken ground on two Los Angeles affordable housing communities. The projects - the 54-unit Amani Apartments and 43-unit Chesterfield Apartments - will bring much-needed low-cost housing to the area. They are both being built by R.D. Olson Construction.
Located at 4719 Normandie Ave in South Los Angeles, the five-story, 31.5k sf Chesterfield Apartments will feature studio apartments as well as a general manager’s unit. Amenities will include a community room, bicycle storage room, laundry facilities as well as a rooftop observation deck for residents to enjoy. It is expected to complete in Q2 of 2022 and will replace a currently vacant lot.
The five-story, 43k sf Amani Apartments caters to seniors and is located at 4200 W. Pico Blvd in L.A.’s Mid-City area. All units will be studio apartments, and the general manager will be located onsite. Amenities will include a community room, bicycle storage room, parking garage, laundry facilities and an open-air courtyard. It is expected to complete in Q3 2022 and will also replace a vacant lot.
Each apartment complex will feature a contemporary design, with perimeter store front glass on the first levels. Amani will include finned windows on the upper floors, while Chesterfield will have thin brick and stucco exterior elements. Both have first-floor concrete podiums, with floors two through five consisting of wood-frame construction.
In addition to Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation, R.D. Olson Construction partnered with architecture and interior design firm Abode Communities on the prevailing wage project.
Other affordable housing projects from R.D. Olson Construction include Lamp Lodge, an 82-unit affordable housing community in Downtown Los Angeles that is currently under construction; Citrine Apartments, a 37-unit community located in the heart of the Sonoma County wine region; and Citrea Apartments, a 55-unit, 52.4k sf complex near Downtown Fullerton.
