RENTV was on hand in Anaheim on April 30 to attend Encore for Education, a very cool, commercial real estate industry charity concert, which raised $200,000 to benefit Buchanan Children’s Charities and the Orange County Community Foundation’s Music Matters initiative. The fundraiser was held at the House of Blues® in Anaheim, and featured a live performance by Billboard Music Award winner Third Eye Blind. The event was underwritten by generous donations from lead sponsors Buchanan Street Partners, Boeing, Auction.com and Idea Hall.
We chatted with Robert Brunswick, President of Buchanan Children’s Charities and CEO of Buchanan Street Partners, who pointed out that they’re “thrilled with the success of the event and our ability to empower children and young adults by bringing music programs back into underfunded Orange County public schools.”
The Music Matters program was created from the partnership between Buchanan Children’s Charities and the Orange County Community Foundation with the objective to revitalize the music programs in Orange County schools. This is the fourth Encore for Education concert event that has been produced since 2007, raising a very impressive total of $570,000 for the local music and arts programs.
The funds raised during the event will support arts education across 16 school districts in Orange County impacting 160,720 students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Furthermore, 3,786 teachers will gain access to professional development tools to improve their dance, theatre, visual arts and media arts programs.
“Due to the generosity of Buchanan Children’s Charities, the sponsors and attendees, we can offer local students the opportunity to have a successful future,” said Steve Venz, Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts at the Orange County Department of Education.
To give you a more specific idea of how some of the charity’s funds will be used, Magnolia School District will receive a grant of $50,000 to purchase new flutes, clarinets, trumpets and trombones, and support the music program director’s curriculum. Additionally, 5,000 students in the Newport-Mesa School District will benefit from new violins. The grant will also support Huntington Beach City and Huntington Beach Union School Districts with a new master drawing class and improvements to a performing arts center. The remaining funds will be distributed across the other school districts to update or create new district arts plans.
“We have received remarkable support from the commercial real estate community,” said Brunswick. “This year, more than 50 companies stepped up to sponsor the event, making this our most successful event to date.”
More than 800 commercial real estate professionals attended the event, which was supported by the generous donations of the producing sponsors Buchanan Street, Idea Hall and Auction.com. Other sponsoring companies in attendance included Seyfarth Shaw, Cox Castle Nicholson, EY, Allen Matkins, DTZ, R.D. Olson, CBRE, Bixby Land Company, Stream Realty and KPMG, among others.
And let's not forget to mention the great rendition of the hit song Jumper that Third Eye Blind performed with lead singer Stephan Jenkins sounding incredible..."wish you would step back from that ledge my friend."
