Construction has been completed on Maya, a 72-unit market-rate apartment project in Los Angeles Koreatown neighborhood. The development, located at 535 South Kingsley Dr, is being built by Jamison Properties.
The new seven-story Maya features a mix of one- and two-bedroom units ranging in size from 580 sf to 1.3k sf. Each unit features high-end stainless steel appliances, stone countertops, tile backsplash, contemporary plumbing and lighting fixtures, wood-style plank flooring, in-unit washer/dryer, walk-in clients with built in custom shelving, and private balconies. Common area amenities include a secured lobby, fully equipped fitness center, central courtyard with pool and clubhouse, subterranean parking and rooftop terrace with views looking to Hollywood and Downtown.
Designed by KFA Architects, the building is characterized by its modern and sleek architecture with white and gray metal panels and warm-toned porcelain tile with wood accents. Wilshire Construction acted as General Contractor.
Jamison, one of the largest commercial office landlords in Los Angeles, is introducing Maya following the successful conversion of two former Koreatown commercial office buildings into multifamily communities. Jamison entered the multifamily market in 2013 with the 127-unit Westmore, the successful conversion and lease up of a former 12-story office building at3075 Wilshire Blvd. In 2016, Jamison opened The Abbey, the adaptive reuse of a 1927 office and parking building into a 110-unit apartment complex at 3550 West Sixth St. Both projects were fully leased four months after opening.
Similar to its other multifamily developments, Maya opens with a large percentage of the units preleased with full occupancy expected by the end of the year, according to Jamison Properties CEO Garrett Lee.
“Koreatown is one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles, and the inventory of multifamily product in Koreatown has not kept up with the demand,” said Lee. “We see that continuing for the foreseeable future, especially as vibrant urban environments such as Koreatown and Downtown Los Angeles become the place of choice for young professionals.”
The Maya is the first of four new multifamily developments that Jamison will introduce to the Los Angeles market this year. These include Circa, a 648-unit luxury apartment complex at 1200 Figueroa across from LA Live, developed in partnership with Hankey Investment Co and Falcon California Investments.
