San Bernardino County’s The State of the County “Momentum is Building in 2015” will be a forum to share how the work of the Countywide Vision is generating positive momentum across important areas of San Bernardino County’s economy including: healthcare, education, business, global access, tourism and government. The event will be held Wednesday, April 15 starting at 4:30 pm at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario. More than 1,000 business, community, and government leaders will be in attendance.
“Momentum is building in San Bernardino County, as economic indicators tell us that people continue to choose San Bernardino County for its lower cost, high-quality lifestyle. The same can be said for businesses looking for more competitive rental and land rates,” said Board of Supervisors Chair James Ramos. “
According to Joel Kotkin, an internationally recognized authority on global, economic, political and social trends, the Inland Empire remains Southern California’s opportunity region. It is the one Southern California region with the land, and the housing cost structure, ideal for future economic growth.
In a recent report “Housing the Future”, Kotkin noted the following:
• The region is creating jobs over the past year at a 2.2 percent rate, well above the 2.0 increase in Orange County and almost twice that of LA’s 1.3 percent.
• The Inland Empire accounted for two-thirds of the new businesses created statewide from 2012 to 2013.
• Industrial vacancy rates have fallen to roughly half that level today.
• Between 2011 and 2013, Riverside-San Bernardino gained a greater share of aged 25 to 34 college-educated residents, out of the 52 major metropolitan areas. No major California metropolitan area, including Silicon Valley, equaled this level of youthful, educated growth.
Prior to the State of the County, starting at 3:30 pm, the Inland Empire chapter of NAIOP will present “Game Changing Commercial Real Estate Opportunities Now and for the Future in San Bernardino County.” Panelists include: Dougall Agan, President, Stirling Development; John Magness, Senior Vice President, Hillwood, A Perot Company; Michael Kendall, Senior Vice President, CBRE, Inc.; Terry Thompson, Director of Real Estate, San Bernardino County; and Chris Thornberg, Founder & CEO, Beacon Economics. Sponsorships are still available. Tickets are also on sale. For more information, go to sbcountyadvantage.com.
