The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded 888 North San Mateo Drive as national winner in the Bay Area for Outstanding Multifamily Project. The property, a development of Sares Regis Group of Northern California (SRGNC), is one of the first multifamily mid-rise luxury apartment buildings in California of its size to achieve LEED Platinum.
The recognition comes as part of USGBC’s annual LEED for Homes Awards, recognizing projects, developers and homebuilders that have demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation in residential green building. SRGNC has long been committed to LEED, and their prior knowledge of the system helped them guide this project to achieve 28% over code energy savings.
888 San Mateo is a 158-unit, two-building luxury apartment community completed in January 2014. The transit-oriented community has close proximity to numerous public transportation options, making its location desirable for commuting Bay Area residents.
Contributing to the LEED Platinum certification, every unit is equipped with low-volume water fixtures, low-e windows, R-30 attic insulation, advanced filtration systems and Energy Star appliances. The landscaping is efficiently irrigated to reduce outdoor water-use. Chemical free, low emitting materials were used throughout the interiors, supported by top-notch air filtration and continuous ventilation fans.
The LEED for Homes Awards are given to recipients that have either completed an outstanding project in the previous year or are proven trailblazers in the field of sustainable home building. An independent panel of judges reviewed applications and selected a group of truly laudable recipients. LEED is the foremost program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings.
