An 83.1k sf, three-property portfolio in Portland just traded hands. Located in the heart of the city’s Chinatown area, the portfolio is comprised of the Norton House, Captain Couch and Merchant Hotel Building, all built between 1875 and 1904.
The portfolio offers quintessential creative office space with large operable windows, open ceilings and exposed brick. All three buildings feature ground floor retail with creative office above.
Built in 1875, the two-story, 13.9k sf Norton House is the oldest property in the portfolio, while the 17k sf, two-story Captain Couch was completed in 1904. The third property, the 52.1k sf Merchant Hotel, debuted in 1880 as a luxury hotel. Its brick courtyard and fountain are reminiscent of its former Victorian Italianate splendor. All three buildings are ground floor retail with creative office above.
NAI Norris, Beggs & Simpson Senior Vice President MaryKay West and President Chris Johnson represented the seller, the Bill Naito Company. CBRE Senior Vice President Trevor Kafoury repped the buyer, John Beardsley of Beardsley Development, who is known for renovating historic downtown buildings. The portfolio will continue to be operated as multi-tenant buildings.
