Daiso, a growing Japanese discount retailer, is further expanding its presence in the San Francisco Bay Area with the recent lease of an 8.5k sf store space at the Powell Street Plaza in Emeryville. Daiso will be taking over the former Pier 1 Imports space located at 5719 Christie Ave, south of Powell St and just east of I-580.
Daiso joins other retailers such as Marshalls, BevMo!, Trader Joes and Ross at the property, which is owned by Regency Centers. With this new store, Daiso will now have more than a dozen locations spanning nine different cities throughout the Bay Area per its web site. Notably, the discount retailer also recently completed a lease for a similarly sized space at the Fremont Hub Shopping Center in the city of Fremont.
Daiso offers quality household products including dining and kitchenware, home decor, health and beauty, hardware and other household items at discounted pricing. They were represented in this latest transaction by Jennifer Hibbitts with Cushman & Wakefield’s Retail Services group in collaboration with Ken Shishido of Jones Lang LaSalle.
Daiso carries nearly 70,000 products and almost all of them were developed in-house. Daiso has over 3,000 stores in Japan and all over the world.
