The Swig Company has acquired The Wakefield Building, a 57k sf office property in Uptown Oakland. The structure, located at 416 17th St, was originally developed by Dr. W.H. Wakefield in the 1920’s as a medical office building.
The building has since been transformed into one of Oakland’s premier creative office buildings. Located just steps from the 19th Street BART Station, the building features tenant spaces suffused with natural light, open ceilings, exposed brick, operable windows, a high-character entrance and lobby, and abundant bike storage with men’s and women’s showers.
The Wakefield is the new home of Sungevity’s incubator spin-off, SFunCube, as well as First Place for Youth, the American Heart Association, the Rockwood Leadership Institute, and the Asian Pacific Education Network. The Swig Company also owns and operates the nearby Kaiser Center on Lake Merritt.
Seth Siegal and Adam Lasoff of Cushman & Wakefield represented the seller in the transaction. Tony Ratner of the law firm, Farella Braun + Martell provided legal advice to The Swig Company. The price was not given out.
