Blossom Plaza, a transit-oriented, mixed-use development on Broadway near the "Gateway" of Los Angeles’ historic Chinatown district, has been completed. The project, a development of Forest City, was designed by architect Johnson Fain and executive architect Togawa Smith Martin. It was built by Benchmark Contractors, a division of Morley Builders.
Blossom Plaza contains of 237 residential units, of which 184 are market-rate while 53 are considered affordable housing. The project consists of two, five-story buildings with subterranean parking for 453 cars. It also includes more than 20k sf of retail and restaurant spaces.
The residences provide a direct connection to the elevated Metro Gold Line Station, allowing more people to utilize public transportation for their daily commutes to downtown Los Angeles and beyond.
While modern in design, touches inspired by traditional Chinese influences include ornate railings, hanging lanterns and decorated pavers arranged in Chinese patterns in keeping with the neighborhood character. The project is targeting LEED Gold certification through the US Green Building Council.
