Long Beach Affordable Housing Development for Seniors Breaks Ground

6/04/14

Meta Housing Corporation has broken ground on Long Beach & 21st Apartments, a 41-unit, LEED Silver affordable housing community for seniors aged 55 and older in the city of Long Beach. Located at 2114 Long Beach Blvd, the project will feature modern architecture designed by PSL Architects. Completion is scheduled for summer of 2015.

The development will offer a host of inclusive services for residents, including assistance with employment, money management, and educational services, as well as support in obtaining health and dental care as needed. These services will be provided by Meta Housing’s development partner on the project, PATH Ventures.

The four-story community will be comprised of one- and two- bedroom floor plans, and will feature a variety of amenities, including a community room, community kitchen, library, and roof deck. It will be sustainably designed, with common areas built to encourage resident interaction and overall well-being.

Meta Housing Corporation worked closely with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH) and the California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA) in order to bring the project to fruition, according to Kasey Burke, President of Meta Housing Corporation.

“As long-time partners and supporters of this project, the DMH and CalHFA served as the catalysts for the development by providing vital financing through their jointly administered Mental Health Services Act Housing Program,” explained Burke. Bank of America provided construction financing and equity for the project.

Additional financing partners for Long Beach & 21st Apartments include the Housing Authority of the City of Long Beach, the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, California Community Reinvestment Corporation, and the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco.
