Construction has topped out at 288 Pacific, a seven-story luxury condominium project located in the historic Jackson Square district of San Francisco. The project is being developed by Grosvenor Americas with Swinerton as the general contractor.
The project, targeted for LEED® Gold certification, will consist of 33 market-rate units. Designed by Handel Architects, 288 Pacific blends in seamlessly with the neighborhood’s historic masonry buildings. The building’s L-shaped footprint surrounds the iconic Old Ship Saloon, one of the oldest bars in San Francisco, on the corner of Pacific and Battery Streets.
According to Steve Buster, Grosvenor’s Senior Vice President of Development, 288 Pacific will boast remarkable views of downtown San Francisco. Amenities will include high-end finishes and balconies, at-grade parking with car stackers, and bike parking. The ground floor will have two retail spaces.
The project site is on the historic waterfront of San Francisco, and an archeological dig was conducted to examine the site for artifacts. After a 12-week excavation period, a portion of the Arkansas was discovered—a three-masted ship that was abandoned during the Gold Rush and used as a storefront and saloon in the mid-1800s. After documenting this artifact, the City of San Francisco and the San Francisco Maritime Historic Park requested that the Arkansas remain under the project.
