Gelson’s Markets has inked a lease for 248.3k sf of industrial space in Santa Fe Springs in a long-term transaction valued at over $20 mil. The upscale supermarket chain will occupy more than half of the newly built Freeway Springs Logistics Center for its growing warehousing and distribution needs.
The new facility is located at 13833 Freeway Dr, adjacent to I-5. As part of the lease, the company will occupy 30k sf of two-story office space to accommodate a significant portion of its corporate staff.
The new concrete, tilt-up facility, which contains 463k sf of space, features a bold contemporary design of glass, steel. It provides both freeway frontage and a striking profile along adjacent I-5. Its Mid-Cities location also features direct access to a variety of other major surface transit routes, including the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, the Riverside (91) Freeway and the Century (105) Freeway.
Other building features include dock-high and ground level loading, 36-foot minimum ceiling clearances, ESFR fire sprinkler system, a 180-foot concrete truck court, a fenced and secured truck yard, 260+ car parking, 94 trailer stalls and ample skylights. It also is LEED Silver Certified.
Encino-based Gelson’s was represented in the transaction by the Colliers team of Senior Executive Vice President Stephen Calhoun, Senior Vice President Craig Stevens and Senior Associate Tyler Stevens. The developer and property owner, Freeway Springs LLC, a division of Golden Springs Development Co, was repped by another Colliers team comprised of Senior Executive Vice President Clyde Stauff, Senior Vice President Christopher Sheehan and Calhoun.

“In addition to its high-image building elevation and full freeway visibility that makes this one of the most prominent landmark buildings in Santa Fe Springs, the developer has incorporated the latest in construction techniques,” noted Calhoun. “Additionally, Golden Springs provides such tenant services as roof and HVAC maintenance, landscaping and other features, which allows its tenants to focus on their core business. That was another selling point for Gelson’s.”
