UPstART Opens Newest Shared Room Community in East Hollywood

UPstART, a communal housing operator and private club for artists and musicians, has opened Harvard House, a 96-bed community located at 816 N Hobart Blvd in the East Hollywood region of Los Angeles California.

UPstART operates five communities in the Echo Park, Silver Lake, Hollywood and Beachwood Canyon areas of Los Angeles. There are currently 250 active UPstART members with a waitlist of over 500. The company has an active pipeline for an additional 700 beds in the next 18 months.

In addition to providing housing for its members, the community features a fully equipped recording studio, photo studio, self-tape room, fitness center, stage and theater, co-working space with computer labs, film equipment library and more.

"Our mission is not only to provide affordable housing to the next wave of artists in cities where most have been priced out of conventional apartments, but also to curate membership with strong creative talent and supplement that with programming like speakers, workshops, trips, and events," said Leeor Maciborski, advisor for UPstART.

“UPstART accepts members based on their creative abilities rather than their financial situation" said Jeremiah Adler, Founder and CEO of UPstART. "The organic collaboration that happens is amazing. A writer will finish a script, hand it off to another member who’s a director who casts it with actors from the community, and then one of the musicians writes and records the score in our onsite recording studio.”

UPstART provides a shared space where artists, actors, musicians, DJs, models, comedians, writers, directors and dancers live, play, collaborate and create together. The low month-to-month of $700-$750 includes access to all facilities, admittance to all activities (which range from family dinners to group workshops to house concerts to beach trips), and a bunk bed or pod bed in one of its guest rooms.
