Lifescapes International completed the landscape design for Trumark Urban’s TEN50, the new, luxury 25-story high-rise featuring 151 luxury residences in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Located at 1050 S. Grand Ave in Downtown LA’s South Park district, the project is near iconic destinations such as the Orpheum Theater, Staples Center, LA Live, and the Los Angeles Convention Center.

TEN50 offers one- and two-bedroom residences as well as a penthouse and two-story penthouse units, all situated above 5.8k sf of ground-floor retail. The property features a private screening room, an ultra-modern fitness studio, and a drone delivery service, complete with the first air-delivery-ready drone landing pad in the country.

Lifescapes designed the landscape environment for the project’s sixth floor outdoor terrace and pool deck known as “The Fifty,” which blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor living, spilling seamlessly out from the gathering spaces inside. The design features resort-style amenities that feel like a boutique hotel, including entertainment bars, fire tables for city-light viewing parties, and vibrant water features.

The focal point of Lifescapes’ design is a large, flowering Naked Coral tree in a raised planter surrounded by multi-level garden spaces, well-appointed BBQ areas and a built-in entertainment bar that accommodates intimate gatherings to private parties. Guests of the modern, zero-edge pool and generous-sized therapeutic spa are greeted by a solid stone water feature as they enter. More than 30 large Japanese blueberry trees form a natural tree wall, and 1,000 shrubs of various sizes were woven together to create a vibrant tapestry.

Mike Meyers, Lifescapes’ Senior Project Director and principal designer for this project, asserts, “We created an engaging space that highlights breathtaking views of the city – an oasis in the skyline. The project required significant creativity to integrate extensive, yet nuanced landscaping into a predominantly urban setting.”

Lifescapes incorporated a variety of luxury plant materials surrounding ample seating areas to cultivate “mini-destinations” throughout the deck. The lush and welcoming environment cultivated an urban oasis through combinations of large trees and palms such as tree aloes, Japanese loquats, and Kentia Palms.

TEN50, developed by San Francisco-based Trumark Urban, was designed by HansonLA, Handel Architects LLP, and Adamson Associates Architects in collaboration with Lifescapes International’s Don Brinkerhoff and Mike Meyers. TEN50 is surrounded by world-class dining, entertainment and recreation.
