Construction has begun on a new Toyota Dealership of Downtown Los Angeles, located at the corner of Figueroa and Washington. The four-tier, 290k sf facility will feature a 22.6k sf, two-story showroom with vehicle display along Figueroa, a 40-car bay below grade service department and a wholesale and retail parts boutique.
The new facility is an expansion of the already thriving Toyota of Downtown Los Angeles, currently located north of the site. Owned by the Shammas Group, the dealership project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2017.
Toyota of Downtown LA is one of eight automobile dealerships owned by the Shammas Group and is a member of the Downtown LA Auto Group, which employs more than 300 people in the downtown area. The dealership has contributed over $23 mil in local sales tax since it was purchased in 2012 and named into the Toyota Motor Sales Governor’s Circle in 2015.
The 1.6-acre site is located on the southwest corner of Figueroa and Washington. With a pedestrian-oriented front door that opens onto the adjacent sidewalk, and a project that extends lot line-to-lot line, guests will be greeted with an inviting hospitality-oriented space, designed with sustainability and comfort in mind.
“This facility will serve as the prototype for urban dealerships, vertically integrating the uses to maximize efficiency, and featuring an interactive, hospitality-oriented showroom,” said Abbey Ehman with Trammell Crow Company’s SoCal-Los Angeles Business Unit. Trammell Crow is developing the building. “The store was designed to enhance connectivity and blend into the urban fabric, with a façade that meets the sidewalk and a dramatic double height showroom. “
“Since Toyota of Downtown L.A. was established in December 2012, they have grown by more than 67 percent in three short years. This growth and a desire to improve the Toyota customer experience has Toyota of Downtown L.A. investing in the what will be the new prototype of an urban dealership. A dealership that makes the most efficient use of space, energy and technology to provide the needed services to the downtown Los Angeles customer.” said Jim Moran with Toyota.
The project architect is PDS Architects, ConAm Building Company serves as the contractor and Ware Malcom is the tenant improvement architect and overseeing interior design.
