McCarthy Building Companies, in partnership with Griffin Structures, recently topped out the structural steel on the new Westminster Police Department Headquarters building. Located at 8200 Westminster Blvd in Westminster, the three-level facility was topped out during a ceremony when steel workers from Pro-Steel placed the final structural steel I-beam on the braced-frame steel structure. On schedule for completion in May 2011, the police building was designed by AECOM of Orange to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver requirements.
The $65 mil project includes construction of a 91k sf police building housing an upgraded 911 communications center, a new forensic lab, increased evidence storage capacity, an Emergency Operations Center, a Type I jail facility and administrative work space. The project also includes site work such as driveways, surface parking, a sallyport, landscape and fire access lane improvements.
The Westminster Police Department Headquarters is one of three SoCal Police facilities McCarthy is currently constructing in partnership with Griffin Structures. McCarthy is serving as Construction Manager and Griffin Structures is the Program Manager. The other projects include a 62k sf Police Station in Buena Park and a 55k sf Police Station in Hesperia.
